Asselin Headlines Williams Cup Top Performers After Dominant Two-Way Tournament

Jordan Asselin of the Calgary Raiders put together one of the most complete performances of the 2026 Williams Cup, earning recognition as both the Williams Cup Top Offensive Player and Top Pitcher after starring at the plate and in the circle throughout the tournament.

Asselin emerged from strong fields of contenders in both categories, combining tournament-leading power and run production offensively with a dominant pitching performance that saw him lead virtually every major statistical category.

The awards were determined using overall tournament performance rather than any single statistic, with minimum participation requirements established to ensure players were recognized for sustained contributions throughout the Williams Cup.

Top Offensive Players

To qualify for Top Offensive Player consideration, hitters were required to record a minimum of 10 plate appearances.

The award considered overall offensive production, including batting average, on-base percentage, slugging percentage, OPS, hits, home runs, RBI and quality at-bats.

Asselin separated himself from a strong group of hitters by combining efficiency at the plate with tournament-leading power and run production.

Across six games and 16 plate appearances, Asselin batted .429 with a .438 on-base percentage, slugged 1.214 and finished with a 1.652 OPS.

He collected six hits while leading the tournament with three home runs and eight RBI, consistently providing one of the most dangerous bats in the Williams Cup lineup.

Raiders teammate Dixon Tarr finished as one of the tournament's most productive all-around hitters. Tarr batted .412 with seven hits, six RBI and a tournament-best nine quality at-bats across 18 plate appearances.

Nevin Wilson of the Calgary Jays also delivered a strong tournament, batting .400 with a .438 OBP, .800 slugging percentage and 1.238 OPS while collecting six hits and driving in four runs.

Daryl Vandenbos of the Calgary Pirates produced perhaps the tournament's strongest pure hitting performance. Vandenbos posted an outstanding .636 batting average and .750 on-base percentage, collecting seven hits in 16 plate appearances and finishing with a 1.568 OPS.

When the complete offensive picture was considered, however, Asselin's combination of hitting efficiency, power and tournament-leading production stood above the field.

Top Pitchers

Asselin's impact wasn't limited to the batter's box.

Pitchers were required to record a minimum of six innings to qualify for Top Pitcher consideration, with the award weighing ERA, WHIP, opponent batting average, strikeouts, innings pitched, wins and overall tournament impact.

Once again, Asselin separated himself from the field.

Over 24 innings, the Raiders pitcher posted a remarkable 0.29 ERA, earned four victories, struck out 36 batters, finished with a 0.88 WHIP and held opposing hitters to a .159 batting average.

He finished the tournament ranked first in virtually every major pitching category, including ERA, wins, strikeouts, WHIP and opponent batting average, while also carrying the largest workload among the tournament's leading pitchers.

Asselin averaged 10.5 strikeouts per seven innings and consistently prevented opposing lineups from generating sustained offensive pressure.

It was a rare combination of durability, command and dominance.

Several other pitchers also turned in strong Williams Cup performances.

Dwayne Singer of the Calgary Jays was one of the tournament's most efficient pitchers, posting a 3.11 ERA over nine innings while holding opponents to a .257 batting average. Singer also recorded eight strikeouts and finished with a 1.56 WHIP.

Ryan Simpson of the Calgary Pirates provided one of the tournament's largest workloads outside of Asselin, throwing 15 innings while earning three victories and recording 18 strikeouts. His ability to provide meaningful innings throughout the tournament made him one of the Pirates' most important contributors.

Pirates teammate Jeremy Hickey also earned consideration after posting a 4.35 ERA and 1.45 WHIP across nine innings. Hickey struck out 11 batters and demonstrated an ability to miss bats throughout the tournament.
